Leadership

I was speaking to a teacher at an informal get together, and as I am a life long learner was curious  as to how they stayed up yo date, particularly in a post covid period, where every thing seems to be travelling at warp speed.Thinking she would have a process to keep abreast of developments in her area. I wasn’t really surprised by her answer but went away thinking how true and relevant it might be.

She said we are learn everyday. I know that is a truism, but really is it true. Considering it has been found that more than 50% we do by habit unconsciously, it doesn’t leave much space to take on new knowledge.  we develop a comfort zone , and unless this is disturbed it is unlikely that we will take on information outside this area which is likely to disturb our view of our world.

The only time this changes when we are rocked, or have an urgent need to change caused by some cataclysmic event in my life.

We happy to rock along with everyone else. And who knows if we do change significantly will my friends still like me- the power of our peer.

However we set ourselves to be the best person we can be, and pitch our today against ourselves of yesterday. And expect the person we present to the world will learn and become the better person than we are today. This will ensure we will learn every day and be aware on guard to glean ways that we will become the better person, just as the teacher imagined , wrongly, she was becoming.
